Compressors lower the volume of the loudest elements of your signal which allows the quieter elements to rise up and shine.
The Big Mono is an optical compressor. Inside the Big Mono is a light. Each hand-selected LED bulb is paired with a Light Dependent Resistor. When you play, the louder parts of your signal make the light grow brighter. When the light gets brighter, the Light Dependent Resistor lowers output volume.
The Big Mono also has an external green LED that glows synchronously with the LED inside, allowing you to see how much your signal is being compressed with every pluck of the string.
